The City of Lebanon Common Council adopted an Historic Preservation Ordinance on June 25, 2012. The Historic Preservation Commission and its staff review any exterior changes or additions to building within locally designated areas. A Certificate of Appropriateness must be issued before a property owner can begin work. What is a Local Historic District? A geographic area- which can range in size from single home to many blocks– whose buildings are protected by the Lebanon Historic Preservation Commission through a design review process. The City of Lebanon has designated the Lebanon Historic District as down town and roughly two blocks in every direction.
The Historic Preservation Commission keeps and maintains the historic nature of downtown Lebanon. This board ensures that entities moving into or rehabilitating Lebanon’s historic buildings remain true to the historic nature of those buildings.
