The city is preparing for a major water infrastructure upgrade as it undergoes rapid civil and industrial growth.
Lebanon Utilities in partnership with Citizens Energy Group recently outlined the multi-phase wholesale water supply project designed to meet growing demand.
Lebanon has long struggled to find enough water to support new developments, and Lebanon Utilities General Manager Ed Basquill said the allocation will solve that issue for the foreseeable future.
The LEAP Innovation and Research District alone covers 9,000 acres on the city’s north and west sides and will house Orla LLC’s Meta data center, the Eli Lilly and Co. Medicine Foundry and an Eli Lilly pharmaceutical complex.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp., IEDC, bought the land for, and is developing, LEAP.
With more homes, businesses and industrial projects planned, the current water system can’t keep up. Without major water expansion, developers and residents would face shortages.
