Lebanon, Ind., April 8, 2025– Exactly one year after the 2024 Solar Eclipse, an event that captivated Lebanon residents and attracted thousands of visitors to the area, a time capsule was dedicated to commemorate what took place on April 8th, 2024. 
Visitors filed into the Ralph W. Stark Heritage Center inside the Lebanon Public Library to help dedicate the City of Lebanon Time Capsule. Attendees shared what they remembered from the 2024 Eclipse.
“I am just so incredibly thankful that we survived the day,” joked Mayor Matt Gentry. “With so many people, so many activities, and so many unknowns like the weather, I’m glad it all went off without issue and a wonderful experience was had by so many.”
“I just loved how everyone came together,” said Discover Boone County Executive Director Allyson Gutwein. “It was truly remarkable to see so many work together for such a special event.”
The contents of the artifact included various items from the City’s Eclipse Watch Party Locations: posters, t-shirts, stickers, and wristbands. Two of the banners that were displayed near the City Municipal Building were also added, as well as City of Lebanon eclipse glasses, pins, and coins. A Lebanon High School yearbook as well as newspapers recapping the eclipse were also placed inside time capsule. 
A hardback photo and information book detailing all the events prior to and from Eclipse Day was placed inside the time capsule. The book also contained images taken and submitted by local residents.
“The time capsule will be displayed at the library for an agreed upon length of time,” said Library Historian Eric Spall. “It will then be archived and stored so that it can be opened and enjoyed by future generations.”
The closed-foam, seamless cylinder will be stored until the next Total Eclipse takes place in Lebanon, on February 25th, 2343.
