[Courtesy: The Lebanon Reporter] The Lebanon Leprechauns are gearing up for their fourth season, and are excited for the possibilities that lie ahead.
New team president Chris Canal said earlier this month that preparations for the upcoming season are well underway ahead of the March 1 opener, and the excitement is growing every day.
“You feel like you have this clock that is like a countdown, but we have great people in the organization,” Canal said. “The volunteer group that has been here since the beginning have all recommitted. John Benson, who was the head coach has moved into more of a GM role and we have a new coach in Brent Keck who has a lot of experience that I am excited about. I want to be part of everything we are doing so I have more of an understanding, and that has made it more challenging, but like any business – the more you understand about all the different components, the better you will be. There is definitely a switch from ‘something is going to happen’ to ‘something is about to happen,’ but we are ready to go.”
He and his family would attend games and were a sponsor of the team and when the opportunity arose to take on a bigger role, he jumped aboard.
“We wanted to make sure this remained in town,” Canal said. “It’s a great community asset, it’s great affordable entertainment value and if you’re a basketball fan, you are 10 minutes away from a good basketball game. There has been some momentum and a foundation, so it would be a shame for it not to continue. We just want to continue to build on it and continue to make this community asset even stronger.”
