Around 100 remote-controlled vehicle enthusiasts came out on a sunny Sunday to enjoy the new track at Abner Longley Park.

Track developer Stan Serna of Lebanon, new to the hobby himself, said he and a group of volunteers built the track last year and had two events before winter. Yesterday was the Spring Fling with a swap meet and plenty of track time for attendees.

Serna said the project was given to him by a father and son who arranged for the space at the park for an RC course.

“After they got it approved, they, unfortunately, had to step away from the project,” Serna said. “And asked me to fulfill the dream they had.”

Over the next nine months, Serna gathered donations of rock, fieldstone and other natural materials in a 4×8 trailer all over the area. He had to clear the area of brush. He built and laid most of the track himself last summer and fall.

It’s all new to him, because he’s only been doing remote controlled cars for a year.
