On Wednesday, July 22nd, Lebanon Community School Corporation Superintendent Jon Milleman shared an update on the start of the 2020-2021 school year: Additionally, Dr. Milleman shared a revised school calendar: LCSC Revised Calendar – 7-22-20
Dear LCSC families,
At the recommendation of the Boone County Health Department, Lebanon Community School Corporation has amended our reopening plans in response to an increase in local cases of COVID-19. All LCSC schools will operate in Phase 4 upon reopening. As a result, we will delay our first student day to Thursday, August 13.
The 2020-21 school calendar will be revised to reflect this delayed start. An updated calendar is attached.
During Phase 4, schools will remain open with modifications. Students in grades K-5 will continue with in-person instruction five days per week, while students in grades 6-12 will receive blended (in-person and virtual) instruction. The developmental preschool program at Harney Elementary will begin on August 20 according to students’ selected days.
Students in grades 6-12 who select in-person instruction will attend school two days per week, with virtual instruction three days per week. Students will attend on the same two days each week. Out of convenience for students living in the same household, in-person days will be scheduled alphabetically by last name. Please be on the lookout for additional information from your child’s school.
Families may still choose the full-time remote learning option. It is our goal to provide a consistent, reliable remote learning experience for students who are unable to attend school in-person. The remote learning program was selected based on feedback from our COVID-19 survey, and is designed to support a successful transition back to the classroom.
We understand that this decision may impact your selection of in-person or remote instruction. In order to facilitate this, we have extended online student registration through Monday, July 27. If you wish to edit your selection, please log in to Skyward Family Access, open student registration, and update Step #10. At this time, you may also make updates to your transportation needs, if appropriate.
Families who are considering remote learning will be contacted by your child’s school. We appreciate your patience with this process.
A brief overview of Phase 4 is attached to this email. Our website has been updated to reflect this change, and contains extensive information about Phase 4, as well as our complete phased opening plan. I invite you to visit www.leb.k12.in.us/covid19 for information, resources, and answers to frequently asked questions.
Phase 4 will be re-evaluated weekly. LCSC will continue to communicate with the Boone County Health Department and Boone County school districts, and monitor data regarding COVID-19 community spread. This data includes, but is not limited to, a two-week average of cumulative incident rates, incident rate trends, and positive test rates in Boone County. At least seven days’ notice will be provided prior to moving to a less restrictive phase of learning.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility during this fluid situation.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jon Milleman
Superintendent
