(Courtesy: The Lebanon Reporter) The Lebanon City Council approved a $300,000 additional appropriation that will bring a school resource officer (SRO) to every school in the Lebanon Community School Corporation. Mayor Matt Gentry said the $300,000 will fund start-up costs for the safety expansion for the upcoming school year. The city will later enter an agreement via memorandum of understanding to provide $270,000 in funding to LCSC for the next two years.

The funding for all three years of the commitment will come from Public Safety Local Income Tax dollars that are not currently being used by Lebanon Police. The appropriation will provide salaries, benefits, equipment and training for four new SROs, allowing the district to purchase and train a drug/gun sniffing K9 officer and fund the purchase of safety mechanisms for classroom doors.
