The city’s Planning and Zoning Administration hired HWC Engineering to create a “Sidewalk Inventory” for the City of Lebanon. This study will give us grading for all the sidewalks in town and will provide the information the city needs to prioritize the areas for replacement. This study rates the condition of sidewalks on a scale of 1-10. 1 being “Failed” (absolute worse) and 10 being “Excellent”. Barriers are identified in the study such as, Mailboxes installed in the sidewalk, Stone Alley Crossing the sidewalk, Tree/Shrub Overgrowth blocking the sidewalk, Vehicle Parking on sidewalk and Tripping Hazards (Separations and Cracks).

Administration and is currently being reviewed by staff. Over the past few years the Planning and Zoning Administration has hired contractors to install several thousand feet of sidewalk where walks did not exist. With these gaps almost complete the city needed a road map of sidewalk conditions for current leaders and future leaders to efficiently plan out repair and replacement projects.

There are over 80 miles of sidewalks in the current city limits and many walks need work. With this amount of inventory, and limits on available resources, repair and replacement projects will be ongoing for many years to come.

Once the inventory study is complete, and the city receives the final documents, they will be placed on the city website for all to see.
